Club Tournaments

Saturday’s weather is still questionable and Sunday’s weather looks great so we will have the tournament and social on Sunday. One bonus is we will all have more time tomorrow to whip up some good potluck to enjoy together.

Six teams have entered. Round robin play will take place from 9am to approximately 1pm and then those participating will decide the format for the remainder of the day. Social/potluck and Final will take place in the mid- or late-afternoon.

Competing teams include: Peggy Clement and Linda Herman, Blaine Laskowski and Rosa Mastrocola, Woody Dugan and Darlene McCormick, Charlie Delaney and Melody Badgett, Walter Oberlander and Warren Koss, and Tom and Suzanne Lynch.

Hi All,

We’re checking to see if everyone hoping to enter a team for this weekend’s tournament has done so, or if there are any more singles as we have one unpaired person.

Saturday’s weather is looking iffy but we know how that can change daily. Sunday’s weather is looking great! We need to maintain our flexibility, and hope that Club members will be excited to come watch the finals and join the potluck, whatever day it is.

We are beginning the planning for this year’s Labor Day weekend social and tournament. Labor Day weekend this year is September 5 through 7. This year’s tournament will be mixed doubles with women’s and parent/child teams also welcome. A team’s approximate combined average skill level should not be greater than NTRP 4.0 (not greater than total of 8.0).

Tournament play may be spread over Saturday and Sunday as needed based on the number of entries and the weather forecast. We may consider some format changes this year based on number of teams and team availability. Sunday and/or Monday will be rain date(s). Play will be followed by a potluck social on one of the days.

PLEASE RESPOND ASAP to [email protected] with your intention to enter a team, and with the following information:

• Team member names.
• If you do not have a partner and would like us to match you up.
• Estimated NTRP.
• Your availability in at least two, preferably three or all of the time slots Saturday morning, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, and Sunday afternoon to allow us most flexibility in planning.

The sooner you respond, the better, as that will give us an indication of how much court time to reserve. Comments/ideas/feedback welcome from previous participants.

The weather forecast for Saturday is looking cloudy and comfortable.

Five women’s teams and five men’s teams teams will be competing on Saturday August 30, with women in the morning and men in the afternoon, followed by finals and a potluck social.

Competitors will receive an email this evening with more detail as we are still working out the detailed timing. The schedule here is approximate. Ladies, plan to arrive no later than 8:30 for warm-up, earlier if you prefer more than 15 minutes. Men, arrive no later than noon for warm-up.

Things are shaping up nicely for our Labor Day weekend tournament and social and the long-range forecast looks good. We have five women’s teams and three men’s teams entered so far. There is room for a couple more men’s teams and one women’s team without having to add a second day. If you are interested in entering a team, please do so by end of Wednesday to [email protected], and then we will know the blocks of time needed. The current plan is to have women play in the morning and men in the afternoon on Saturday August 30, with Sunday as a rain date.

We plan on having our annual tournament and social again on Saturday and/or Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

We’re going to change it up this year and have women’s doubles and men’s doubles in celebration of all the effort and progress the women have made in their clinics.

The format and day(s) will be similar to previous years based on number of teams entered, weather, and other factors. Priority will be Saturday with Sunday as rain date and/or overflow. Refer to last year’s post for details, https://www.madrivertennis.com/labor-day-weekend-2024/.

Hello Tennis Friends,

The tournament and social will be Sunday, as Saturday’s forecast was not looking good. Play will be from 9am to 1pm followed by an afternoon social. Since we’ll likely be hungry for lunch, we’ll take a break in play and the two finalist teams will be given flexibility as to when they wish to start; estimated match time is 2:15pm. Stop by to cheer and bring a dish to share if inclined.

Hello Tennis Friends,

The Labor Day weekend social and tournament is becoming a tradition and we are beginning the planning for this year!

We will conduct a matrix round robin of predetermined doubles teams divided into flights of equivalent ability followed by a member social event. Tournament play may be spread over Saturday and Sunday as needed based on the number of entries and the weather forecast. Sunday or Monday will be a rain date. Labor Day weekend this year is August 31 through Sept. 2.

Doubles teams may be formed as mixed, womens, or parent/child and with an approximate combined average skill level not greater than NTRP 4.0 (not greater than total 8.0).

Two to four flights will be held based on number of entries, morning flight(s) from approximately 8:30am to noon and afternoon flight(s) from approximately 1:00pm to 4:30pm, adjusting times if necessary. Everyone will get to play the same number of games during the flights regardless of winning or losing. The winning teams from each flight will face off in Club Championship match(es) after each day’s flights.

Also after the tournament at ~5:30pm, all MRTC members and their families are invited to meet, socialize, and celebrate tennis at the club. MRTC will provide beer and soft drinks, but feel free to bring your preferred beverage as well. Please bring a potluck snack, appetizer, or dish to share during the tournament or afterward at the social. Let us know if you’d like to help out with setup and organization of paper goods.
