The 2023 season at MRTC got off to an early start just before Memorial Weekend this year and continued through to early November, a total of more than five months open!
Play this season was fabulous despite more rain than usual. We’ve entertained the idea that the rain saturated the courts better than the sprinkler system ever has. A handful of surface rollings by Woody resulted in the rain draining off and the courts becoming playable again quickly.
Membership has increased by a few individuals and households each of the last few years. A second session of ladies doubles was added this year in place of one of the mens doubles weeknights. This session was geared toward faster play and improved convenience for working women. Mens doubles continued on Tuesdays, and the traditionally recreational womens doubles continued on Wednesday mornings.
Lee Delfausse was highly sought for lessons this year, and some doubles strategy clinics were requested by groups of women. Lee also led popular “triples” sessions once a month with potlucks after a few of them at the Delfausses, the Levins, and the Laskowskis. Lee and Dave Caterino arranged a fun exhibition match at MRTC with some of the tennis pros from Windridge Tennis displaying their skill.
A Labor Day weekend doubles tournament was again held, with 12 teams competing this year. The pictures explain the results.

If you recognize anything in the lost and found pic to the right, contact Darlene.
The weekend weather is looking more promising each day, cross our fingers. We’re going to close the courts on Sunday morning and would like some member help.
Please reply if you can help with closing, pulling up lines and removing nails (gloves and pliers helpful), packing and storing lines and nets, and putting away remaining furniture. We are not going to worry about the leaves this year. Woody will be leading this effort Sunday morning at 9:30am.
What a great season we had!
Darlene
We have the pallets left over from the delivery of the court material. Any members want them?
If you want to just a few that’s fine but please don’t take Jill good ones and leave the broken ones. Most of them are in excellent shape.

The courts were finished last evening by Dee & Scott Barker. A shout-out to their hard work over the past ten days. We did add additional material to the surface this year which should make a big difference in the quality of play. It is early in the day and the courts are soft so a word of caution especially if there is moisture in the surface. Remember to always sweep after play.
Please take time to go to our website and read the 2023 season overview that Darlene put together. There are additional offerings for play this year.
Enjoy!
Men’s doubles will be played once a week on Tuesdays from 4 to 6 PM. This is open to all levels.
Assuming the courts are open, the first session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 30.
We will again use playerlineup.com for signing up. If you were enrolled in playerlineup last year, you need to do nothing and should’ve received an email already.
If you have not enrolled in playerlineup, you can do so by using the following link:
https://mrtcmensdoubles.playerlineup.com/public_join
If you are going to play on a date, please indicate “IN” on the site. If you change your mind and cannot play, please go in and change your status to “OUT” even if it is at the last moment.
We look forward to playing with you and don’t forget to bring the beverage of your choice for after play.
Let me know if you have any questions
Geordie
We have had difficulty finding someone to move the pallets of materials up to the courts. I have a friend who has a large backhoe who lives across the street. He is willing to help us tomorrow, but would like to start at 8:30.
We need 4 to 6 people and 4-6 crowbar/pry bars.
Please text me at 802–793–5316 immediately if you are able to help and let me know if you can bring any crowbar/pry bars
Geordie
Hi All, not meaning for you to be informed too many times about our upcoming Spring workday. I have installed a new notification system in our website and sent the old post again by accident. So, the goal of this post is two-fold:
First, to inform you of more detail about the annual Spring workday scheduled for Saturday May 13 at 9:00 at the courts. Work includes bringing the furniture out, repairing fences, getting the watering system operating, a bit of gardening clean-up, etc. It should take about 2 hours. Rain date is the 14th. All members are welcome. Please let Geordie know if you can make it. His email is [email protected].
Second, IMPORTANT, to ask you to reply to this email. Website notifications, like a newsletter, are notorious for being spam filtered. This will be our main way of contacting you once I know everyone is receiving it. PLEASE simply reply to this email to let Darlene know you received the notification, no words needed.
